What is Selank?
Selank is a heptapeptide (seven amino acids). It was developed as a stabilized analog related to tuftsin, a short immune-related peptide fragment.
Research discussions usually place Selank in anxiolytic (anxiety-related) and stress-adaptation lanes. Mechanism papers discuss effects around GABAergic signaling and related neurochemistry, with less of the classic benzodiazepine sedation pattern in the models studied.
What is Semax?
Semax is also a heptapeptide. It is derived from an ACTH fragment (a piece of a larger hormone sequence) that was modified for stability.
Research framing for Semax is more often nootropic or neuroprotective. Papers discuss pathways such as BDNF-related signaling (BDNF is a growth-support factor for neurons) and related recovery models.
How are they different in one sentence?
Selank research leans toward anxiety and stress-system questions. Semax research leans toward cognition and neuroprotection questions. Both share a research lineage and a short peptide style, which is why beginners see them side by side.
What does the evidence look like?
Much of the clinical-style literature comes from Russian research groups and journals. Some reports describe anxiety-scale improvements for Selank and cognitive/neuroprotective endpoints for Semax in domestic study settings.
Independent, large, modern Western randomized trials remain limited. That does not erase the existing papers. It does mean confidence should stay measured until broader replication exists.
What beginners should avoid assuming
